Our new adminstration has been very aggressive on a wide array of goals. From healthcare and the economy to the defense of our nation, there has been considerable and necessarty attention. But one area that seems to have been swept under the rug is the ongoing drug problem.
Drugs are not going to every go away, but we can certainly prevent a lot of kids from trying them. We can also educate adults on the dangers of drugs. In a down economy, with thousands of jobs being lost daily, drugs become a quick fix for a distraught workforce. Even those still with jobs often need something to help them cope with shrinking budgets, mortgages, college education and all of the other problems that life offers.
Drug education has never been more timely and effective. Schools celebrate Red Ribbon Week in October to inform young children on the danger of drugs, but our nation must step up and slow both the demand and supply for harmful narcotics. The violence at our borders tells us that there is a lot of money at stake, therfore a lot of demand.
We have enough issues to deal with, without having to deal with a new epidemic. This problem can be solved.
